Jason's Story

Howdy!
I'm Jason Roszhart. I'm 22 years old and a graduate of Biola University, with a B.A. in Socio-Cultural Anthropology.

I grew up in Greenville, Texas, and went to Aldersgate Church, where I was involved in the youth group and went on my first missions trips. We went on short trips around the United States, and also to Mexico, Canada, and South Africa, where I found great joy in seeing the Gospel of Jesus Christ proclaimed to people of other cultures and various situations and seeing the power of doing justice and social work along with proclamation of the Word of God.

Since coming out to California for college, I have been blessed by an extraordinary group of friends in the Biola community who have pushed me to have Christ as first in my life. Many of us began attending West Lakewood Baptist Church together, a small, loving congregation where we're still involved. Kyle and I met each other day one of freshman year and have been good friends ever since. We have been blessed to live 3 years together in Emerson Hall and now as roommates in an apartment, on top of working two jobs together, having class together, and pursuing God together.

Since coming to the Los Angeles area, I desired to go minister in downtown L.A. to be in a diverse setting with people so different from me yet essentially still so much the same. About two years ago I got plugged into Union Rescue Mission on Skid Row, working in the kitchen to help prepare meals for thousands of people every day. Working with "the poor" every week, I have learned much about God by seeing the Bible in a new light, and I know that I must continue to "remember the poor" (Galatians 2:10). God has shown me his heart for righteousness and justice in the world and our call as Christians to serve, not be served.

I am excited to go with Kyle to India as we enter the next stage in life. I'm not sure where I'll be long term (who does?), but I do anticipate attending seminary in the future. Ultimately I feel called to full-time, parachurch ministry, working with people of diverse racial, ethnic, socioeconomic, and cultural backgrounds. Thank you for joining us in our journey!

The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me,
because the LORD has anointed me to preach good news to the poor.
He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
to proclaim freedom for the captives
and release from darkness for the prisoners
